Tunisian Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali has announced his resignation following the failure of his efforts to form a coalition government.

The country was thrown into political crisis by the assassination of opposition leader Chokri Belaid two weeks ago, sparking mass protests and new fears for the fragile economy.
