Chinese Ambassador on China's internet policy

China's ambassador to the UK Liu Xiao Ming has told BBC's Newsnight that there is a "misconception" about the internet in China.

He says "every day thousands of people make comments online", but that the government must "remove unhealthy content".

In 10 years the number of internet users in China has grown tenfold to more than 500 million.

The country closely monitors internet content that crosses its borders and regularly blocks sensitive stories through use of what is known as the Great Firewall of China.
