Rival countries have squabbled over territory in the South China Sea for centuries - but a recent upsurge in tension has sparked concern that the area is becoming a flashpoint with potentially far-reaching consequences.

Using BBC World TV's new virtual studio Mishal Husain explains why this part of the Pacific Ocean is so valuable to the countries around it and why the United States is starting to take an interest.
