UN condemns nuclear test as North Koreans celebrate

The United Nations has strongly condemned North Korea's decision to carry out a third nuclear test.

Nuclear monitors based in Vienna said the underground explosion had double the force of the last test in 2009.

In a statement, the Security Council said the action posed a "clear threat to international peace and security".

The US has promised to "augment the sanctions regime" against Pyongyang.

However locally, the news appeared to be celebrated.
