7 July 2013 Last updated at 15:01 BST

A surfer at Australia's Bondi beach has been knocked out by a whale, thought to weigh more than 50 tonnes.

The southern right whale, which was with its calf, seemed curious at first, but then it flicked its tail, knocking two surfers off their boards.

Bishan Rajapakse, was left face down in the water, unconscious.

Phil Mercer reports from Sydney.
