'Thai military belongs to the people' - senior general

26 June 2014 Last updated at 01:35 BST

A senior Thai general has told the BBC that last month's military coup was for the benefit of all the Thai people, not just one group.

Lt Gen Chatchalerm Chalermsukh said that the coup had not been planned in advance.

He also told the BBC's Jonathan Head that controversial former PM Thaksin Shinawatra and his family could still return to Thai politics.
