China bus crash kills 11 children in Shandong province
Eleven kindergarten children are dead after a school bus crashed into a truck in eastern China, state media said.
The truck collided with the minibus, which was carrying 14 children, early on Wednesday in Shandong province, according to Xinhua news agency.
Citing police, Xinhua said the bus was overcrowded. The bus driver was also killed.
A series of school bus accidents, often in rural areas, have caused public anger over transport safety.
In July, 11 passengers, including kindergarten children and teachers were killed when their bus fell into a reservoir in southern China. In April, eight children died in a crash in Hainan province.
In 2011, 18 nursery school children died after a coal truck hit their overcrowded school van in north-western China.
The incident caused a nationwide outcry and resulted in the government promising more money for school bus services.
