Australian bush fires rage near Sydney

10 September 2013 Last updated at 16:09 BST

Wildfires are burning across the state of New South Wales, Australia, posing a threat to houses near Sydney.

Up to 40 fires are burning out of control and are far from being contained. High temperatures and strong winds fanning the flames have hampered fire crews' efforts to control them.
