Thailand polls to proceed despite protests

The Thai government says it will stick to its timetable for the general election, scheduled to take place next month, despite protests which have brought much of central Bangkok to a standstill.

Demonstrators are demanding that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra stop the election and resign.
