Irishman 'critical' after attack in Australian capital

An Irishman is in a critical condition in hospital following an assault outside a nightclub in Australia.

The 41-year-old from County Kerry sustained serious head injuries in the attack in the country's capital Canberra in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs said it was offering consular assistance to the man's family.

Australian police are examining CCTV footage from a nearby supermarket.

They are seeking a group of men who were seen in the area at the time.
