Man, 51, beaten and stabbed to death in 'brutal' Cork row

Irish police have described the manner in which a 51-year-old man died in Cork city on Tuesday morning as "brutal".

Preliminary results of a post-mortem indicated that George Delaney from Mahon, on the outskirts of the city, was killed by a combination of stab wounds and head injuries sustained in a beating.

He was involved in a row just after midnight at a bar.

Up to 25 people were believed to have been involved.

A number of weapons were recovered from the scene.

The row is believed to have been between two families involved in an ongoing dispute.
