Garda Gary McLoughlin memorial plaque vandalised

A plaque erected by the family of a garda officer killed in County Donegal has been vandalised.

The small granite plaque to the memory of Garda Gary McLoughlin was broken and a piece of it was placed on the bonnet of a car owned by a brother of the late garda's girlfriend.

Mr McLoughlin died after being hit by a car driven by Martin McDermott in December 2009.

McDermott was jailed for seven years for manslaughter.

He escaped from Loughan House open prison on 16 March and was arrested in Londonderry the following day.

He is currently in prison in Northern Ireland and is expected to be extradited soon.
