28m euros of cocaine seized in Dublin

Three hundred and fifty kilos of cocaine with an estimated value of 28m euros have been seized in Dublin.

About 50kg of the drug were seized in the Tallaght area. A vehicle was also seized.

In follow up searches in Dublin and Kildare, a further substantial quantity of cocaine, currently believed to be in excess of 300kg was seized.

It is the largest single inland seizure of cocaine in the Republic of Ireland. Two men, aged 42 and 31, were arrested.

Justice Minister Alan Shatter said: "Today's events demonstrate the determination and resourcefulness of An Garda Síochána and the Revenue Customs Service in tackling the activities of the major players in the illicit drugs trade.

"I express my deep appreciation and support for their work on my own behalf, that of the Government, and, in particular, on behalf of communities who have to live with the evil which the deadly trade in illicit drugs causes."
