Man faces court after Monet painting damaged
A man is due to appear in court in Dublin on Monday after a French impressionist painting was damaged at the National Gallery of Ireland.
The NGI said the 1874 painting, 'Argenteuil Basin with a single Sailboat' (1874) by Claude Monet has had to be removed.
They said it would now be assessed by conservation staff.
Sean Rainbird, gallery director, said it was "a shocking and very regrettable incident".
"I would like to praise the Garda Siochana and the NGI staff in dealing promptly with the matter," he added.
