Olympics: Ireland's Katie Taylor favourite for gold

Ireland is cheering on Katie Taylor as she fights for an Olympic gold medal in London.

The 26-year-old from Bray in County Wicklow is facing Russia's Sofya Ochigava in the lightweight boxing final at the ExCeL Arena.

The four-time world champion secured her place in the final following a 17-9 victory over Mavzuna Chorieva of Tajikistan in Wednesday's semi-final.

Taylor is favourite to bring home gold.

Tens of thousands are also expected to cheer her on in London and many have gathered in Taylor's home town to watch the fight on big screens.

In Belfast, large crowds gathered to watch the semi-final on the big screen at the City Hall. It is expected to be a similar story on Thursday.

In the semi-final Taylor, was not at her best against the counter-punching 19-year-old but was judged to have won each of the four rounds to set up a gold-medal bout.

World number two Ochigava beat Brazil's Adriano Arajuo 17-11 in Wednesday's second semi-final.
