Longford shop customer dies in wall collapse
A man has died after a wall collapsed inside a store in Longford town in the Republic of Ireland.
Four other people were injured when the internal wall fell in the Connacht Gold DIY and Garden Centre on Athlone Road.
It is understood the man who died was struck by falling masonry and was a customer at the store.
The injured were taken to the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar, where two of them are said to be seriously injured.
The Health and Safety Authority has launched an investigation into the incident.
Chief Executive of Connacht Gold Aaron Forde said: "On behalf of the board, management and staff of Connacht Gold Co-op, I want to express deepest sympathy to the family of the man who was fatally injured in the accident at our Longford store today.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with them and also the other injured people."
Mr Forde said safety was a primary concern and the company was cooperating with emergency services, the Garda and the HSA in establishing the cause of the accident.
