County Meath robbery: Couple held hostage

A post mistress and her husband have been held hostage overnight during a robbery in the Republic of Ireland.

A number of armed raiders forced their way into the couple's home in Virginia, County Cavan, and held the two against their will.

They told the woman to go to the post office at Oldcastle, County Meath, on Friday morning and to hand over cash while her husband was being held.

He was taken from his home and later released in Swords.

Police are trying to establish how much money was in the post office, but they believe less than 10,000 euros (£8,620) was taken from a small safe.

The post mistress was later released.
