Searches are being carried out close to the Irish border by police investigating the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe.

The 41-year-old officer was shot dead during a robbery at Lordship Credit Union in County Louth on 25 January.

It is believed his killers fled to Northern Ireland after the murder.

The planned searches are taking place at Faughart, near Dundalk and a number of specialist Garda (Irish police) units are involved in the operation.

On Saturday, police on both sides of the border renewed their appeals for information about the killing.

Det Garda Adrian Donohoe was the first member of the force to be shot dead on duty since 1996.

The getaway car used by the robbery gang was found burnt out in a forest near Keady, County Armagh, days after the murder.
