Barroso: 'Europe should not meddle on all matters'

2 October 2013 Last updated at 17:17 BST

The European Commission is due to publish proposals to scrap some EU regulations and simplify others it says are not working.

The idea is to ease the burden on European businesses.

It is anticipated health and safety measures may be among those to be cast aside, and it will seek to simplify regulations that are deemed too complex.

Speaking to the BBC's Chris Morris, Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso said: "Europe should not meddle in all matters."
