Death of ex-policeman, Seamus Marren, investigated
Irish police are investigating the death of a retired officer who was reportedly assaulted in his home in County Dublin last weekend.
Seamus Marren, 57, died in Dublin's James Connolly Hospital on Thursday.
The Irish state broadcaster, RTÉ, reported that Mr Marren was attacked at his home in Clonsilla last Saturday and spent the night in hospital.
He was discharged the next day but became ill again and returned to hospital where he subsequently died.
A police spokesman said they were "investigating all the circumstances" of his death but there have been no arrests.
Mr Marren retired in 2011 after serving in a number of stations including the Bridewell and Cabra in Dublin where he was assigned to Áras an Uachtaráin, the home of the Irish president.
