Irish police have arrested two men following the discovery of bomb-making components in County Monaghan on Saturday.

A police spokesman said the find was made as "a result of continuing investigations into dissident republican activity".

The components were discovered when police stopped a van in Monaghan town in the early hours of Saturday.

The men have been taken to Monaghan police station for questioning.
