6 November 2013 Last updated at 22:00 GMT

Around 6,000 workers in the Spanish capital Madrid have gone on strike, in protest at job losses and pay cuts.

The walk-out started at midnight on Tuesday.

Private cleaning companies, contracted by Madrid's city hall, want to lay off more than 1,100 workers and cut remaining salaries by up to 40%.

Miranda Hurst reports.
