Murder inquiry after man's body found in County Offaly drain

A murder inquiry has been launched into the death of a man whose body was found in a drain in County Offaly.

The body of Christy Daly, 47, was discovered at Kilbride, near Clara, on Tuesday morning.

Police said a caravan and two cars were burnt out close to where he was found. It is believed Mr Daly had been living in the caravan.

It has been reported that Mr Daly had been released from prison last month after serving a three-year sentence for false imprisonment.

He has convictions for a number of offences including assault and had been under investigation, but not prosecuted, for alleged sex offences, according to Irish state broadcaster RTÉ.

Police said a number of people have come forward with "valuable information" but they have appealed to any other witnesses to contact them.
