Garda Síochána ombudsman bugging reports: Shatter wants explanation
The Irish minister for justice has asked the police ombudsman's office to explain allegations that its premises were bugged.
Reports suggest a security sweep of the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission's offices last year uncovered evidence of electronic surveillance in a meeting room and its wi-fi being compromised.
Alan Shatter has asked the commission to explain why it commissioned a UK-based security company to carry out a sweep of its Dublin office and why he was not told about it.
He is due to meet ombudsman representatives later.
The claims first emerged in the Sunday Times.
