Leitrim arrest over 4m euros investment fraud

Irish police have arrested a man and frozen a number of bank accounts as part of an investigation into a 4m euros (£3.3m) investment fraud.

The 49-year-old man was detained after officers searched a house in County Leitrim on Thursday morning.

The investigation is being carried out by the Garda (Irish police) Bureau of Fraud Investigation, assisted by the Criminal Assets Bureau.

The man is being questioned at Carrick-on-Shannon Garda station.

A police said spokesman said "a significant amount of monies held in various bank accounts" had been frozen in their investigation into fraud and related money laundering.
