Ukraine: A brief history of Crimea

As Ukraine's security forces seize two government buildings in the Russian-majority Crimea region, BBC News looks back at the history of the region.

Crimea is located on a peninsula stretching out from the south of Ukraine between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
