Why is King Juan Carlos of Spain abdicating? In 60 secs

2 June 2014 Last updated at 13:46 BST

King Juan Carlos of Spain is abdicating after nearly 40 years on the throne.

Hugely popular for most of his reign, the 76-year-old has had health problems in recent years.

BBC News gives a quick explanation for the abdication - in 60 seconds.
