West looks 'really weak' over Ukraine

2 September 2014 Last updated at 17:07 BST

A senior Ukrainian diplomat says Europe would be haunted forever if the West gives up on Ukraine and allows the country to be split by Russia.

Ukraine has asked for arms supplies but EU countries have been divided on how to respond.

Olexander Scherba, ambassador-at-large at the Ukrainian foreign ministry, told HARDtalk's Stephen Sackur the West looked weak in its response to the crisis. He said Russia was "power drunk" and trying to punish Ukraine for its democratic choice.
