Irish Army bomb experts carry out controlled explosion on viable device

A bomb has been found in a housing estate in County Cavan.

The viable device was discovered by a member of the public at 07:30 BST in the Drumnaveil estate in Cootehill.

Army bomb experts carried out a controlled explosion.

The area was declared safe at 14:40 BST.

Residents living in about 30 houses had to leave their properties as a result of the security alert.

Evidence from the scene will be handed to police.
