Police have released CCTV footage of a man they want to speak to in connection with the stabbing of a GAA footballer in Dublin.

Jonny Cooper sustained injuries to his head and neck in the attack, which took place in Upper Dorset Street at about 05:30 BST on Saturday.

The footage was due to be shown on RTÉ's CrimeCall programme on Monday, but was deemed too distressing.

Police have asked anyone who knows the identity of the man to contact them.

The 24-year-old footballer, who plays at county level for Dublin and at club level for Na Fianna in Glasnevin, was treated at the Mater Hospital for non life-threatening injuries following the attack.

Police investigations are continuing.
