Contract Services creates 50 jobs

A Belfast firm is creating more than 50 new jobs after winning a £50m housing association maintenance contract.

Contract Services won the contract with Abacus Housing Consortium, which acts as a central purchasing unit for five housing associations.

They include Oaklee Trinity, South Ulster, Open Door, Ark and Ulidia.

The five-year deal is worth £6m a year and includes maintenance services such as mechanical, electrical and general building services.

It covers 6,000 properties in Northern Ireland.

Contract Services said 35 of the new jobs are already in place at its premises in Kennedy Way industrial estate. The firm is also investing in 50 new vehicles to carry out the contract.

Managing director Rory McNaughton started the company in 2005 with just one engineer.

Mr McNaughton said: "Winning the Abacus contract is not just beneficial to Contract Services but also to the local economy as we are investing heavily in new jobs and vehicles to help deliver the huge job at hand."
