Portnoo accident: Donegal worker critical after tyre explosion

A man is in a critical condition following an accident at a timber factory in County Donegal.

The 66-year-old is understood to have suffered serious chest injuries at the North West Wood Products plant in Portnoo on Thursday.

It is believed he was hurt when a tyre exploded at about 15:45 GMT.

Ambulance staff, fire crews and police were called to the factory. The man was airlifted by coastguard helicopter to Letterkenny General Hospital.

The Irish Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has launched an investigation as the incident occurred in a workplace.
