A lorry crash on a major cross-border road highlights the need for proper safety measures, a local resident has warned.

The lorry overturned and crashed into the railings of a house at Emyvale, County Monaghan. A man who was in the house at the time escaped injury.

The N2, which runs between Dublin and the Northern Ireland border at Aughnacloy, was closed in both directions following the crash on Sunday morning.

Local resident Peadar McMahon said a number of homes had to be demolished following a previous lorry crash five years ago.

"This time, a lorry transporting milk was coming down the road in slippery conditions when it overturned at Shaw's Corner - it's a notorious blackspot," he said.

"People who live there are living in fear."

The lorry driver's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
