Car crash and gunshots during County Kerry police chase

Shots have been fired by police officers chasing armed robbery suspects and a getaway car has crashed during a pursuit in the Republic of Ireland.

Officers are still searching for a third suspect after arresting two men over the robbery at a post office in Waterville, County Kerry.

The chase began on Wednesday morning as gardaí (Irish police) were alerted to the robbery at about 11:15 local time.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the shooting or the crash.

Investigation

The three suspects allegedly ran off into fields after their car crashed in the Beaufort area of Killarney.

Irish national broadcaster RTÉ reported that two men were arrested after being found "hiding in a farmyard".

Officers are searching the area with dogs for the third man.

The incident has been referred to the police watchdog for investigation.

A Garda spokesman said: "This is usual procedure when it appears that conduct of a member of the Garda Síochána may have resulted in death or serious harm."
