Guernsey boat owners have been warned to make sure their vessels are secure in advance of strong winds combined with a high tide on Tuesday.

Force 8 gales are expected to hit the island's east coast during the 8.8m (29ft) high tide at 2030 GMT.

Captain Peter Gill, the island's harbour master, said: "Boats in the marinas are going to take a bit of a pounding.

"Check the moorings, the bilges... do all the usual things and do them well."
