A handful of demonstrators protested outside Guernsey's Royal Court ahead of a debate on introducing proposed new rules on herbal health supplements.

The protesters said the new laws could result in supermarket products such as Marmite being pulled from shelves.

The States has been asked to agree to legislation that would bring the island in line with the European Union.

The Health Department said the move was to safeguard consumers and ensure companies met EU standards.

Judy Hayman, one of the protesters, said she was worried about the impact the new rules could have.

She said they were concerned the possible removal of Marmite from supermarket shelves in Denmark was a warning of what could happen in the island.
