Register plan for Guernsey sex offenders

Guernsey could get a register of sex offenders by January 2013.

The States is planning changes to sexual offence laws, some of which date back to 1909 and are written in French.

Under the new system to be debated in July, offenders would also have to regularly tell police of their whereabouts.

Offenders' names would stay on the register for at least five years and those cautioned for an offence would stay for two years.

Laws on prostitution, child pornography and trafficking will also come under scrutiny.
