States can not investigate its own 'secret deals'

There will be no investigation into the circumstances of when the States of Guernsey should reveal the details of out-of-court settlements.

The Policy Council has been criticised for not talking about a payout recently struck with some UK fishermen.

Deputy John Gollop asked the States Assembly and Constitution Committee to look into when such such information should be disclosed to the public.

Its chairman Ivan Rihoy said it was outside of his committee's mandate.

He said his committee had "no authority" to carry out such a review.
