A man arrested following the discovery of a woman's body in a flat in St Peter Port has been released on bail.

Guernsey Police had been given until 20:00 BST on Wednesday to question the 27-year-old, who has not been named.

The body of Liga Verse, 24, from Latvia, was found by police at a property in the Bordage area on Saturday evening.

Guernsey Police are treating the death as "suspicious". No cause of death has yet been released.

Det Insp Phil Breban of Guernsey Police said the investigation was proving "particularly challenging and complex".

He said there were "many lines of inquiry still to be completed".

"This will include forensic analysis of items seized during the course of the investigation, which will be carried out by experts in the UK," he said.

"This will take several weeks to complete."

Miss Verse had been living in Guernsey for a number of years.

Police said a second post-mortem examination would be carried out on Friday.
