Guernsey minimum wage increase comes into effect

Guernsey employers are being reminded of the 2.5% increase in minimum wage, which applies from Saturday.

The Commerce and Employment Department said employers needed to ensure any changes were made to payroll systems.

The 2.5% increase in minimum wage rates, suggested by the department, was agreed by the States in July.

The new hourly rates of £6.15 for adults and £4.35 for those aged 16-18 was the first change to the rates since their introduction in October 2010.

There were also changes to the maximum employers could remove from wages in lieu of providing accommodation and food.

For accommodation only, the rate went up by £1.50 to £61.50 per week and for both accommodation and food the rate rose by just over £2 to £87.13 per week.
