Veterans of the armed forces have been honoured with badges presented by Guernsey's Lieutenant Governor.

Five ex-servicemen received HM Armed Forces Veterans' Badges at a ceremony at Government House in St Peter Port.

Those honoured were Frank David Le Compte, Peter Burtenshaw and Michael Charles Sloan, representing the Army; Richard John Crowson of the RAF; and Robert Alan King of the navy.

The badge initiative began in 2004 as a way of raising the profile of veterans.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor Air Marshal Peter Walker said: "It's always a pleasure to meet local veterans and I'm particularly pleased to see all three Services represented."

About 150 men and women in the Bailiwick of Guernsey have been presented with the badges in 2011.
