Guernsey Tree of Joy campaign 'short of presents'

The Rotary Club of Guernsey has put out an appeal for people to help its Tree of Joy campaign reach its festive present target.

Organisers have said the campaign is about 50 presents short of the 550 it normally distributes.

The gifts are sent to needy children in the island ahead of Christmas.

Tags, one for each child, are collected by islanders who then buy and return gifts to the Rotary Club which then delivers them to the children.

It has now appealed for all the remaining gifts to be returned as soon as possible so they can be delivered to the children.

David Farish, chairman of the club's community services committee, said getting 550 presents to their destinations was a logistical challenge and he could only imagine how Father Christmas must feel.
