Guernsey's ministers elections not to change

Moves to change how Guernsey's senior politicians are elected have been dismissed by the States.

It means the current system, where the candidate and their proposer can both speak for up to five minutes each, will be used after the election in April.

The candidate with the lowest number of votes in each round will be removed until just one candidate remains.

Both of the failed proposals had called for deputies to be able to question candidates.

Members voted 26-20 in favour of the status quo.
