Guernsey States give midwives more power

A move to give midwives in Guernsey more power has been approved by politicians.

The Health Department said times had changed since the rules were laid down in 1990.

It said midwives now oversaw about 70% of births without the intervention of an obstetrician.

The change means midwives will be able to admit patients to hospital for treatment or tests.
