Escaped prisoner recaptured by police in Guernsey

Guernsey police have captured a prisoner who escaped from two prison officers while attending a medical appointment.

David Shields, who is serving an eight-year term for importing Class A drugs, escaped at about 11:20 GMT on the way to the Medical Specialist Group.

He was recaptured at 12:40 after a search by police officers.

Prison governor Terry Wright said there would be a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A Guernsey Police spokesman said: "There was no danger to the public during the relatively short time that this person was at large."
