The organisers of one of Guernsey's biggest annual fundraising events are looking for projects to support.

The 2011 Swimarathon raised more than £44,000, a proportion of which was split between building a skate park and the charity Young People Guernsey.

Jeff Kitts, chairman of the Swimarathon Committee, said having major projects to support gave swimmers a clear idea of why they were taking part.

He asked anyone who was working on a specific project to get in touch.

The event involves swimmers being sponsored to swim lengths of the Beau Sejour Leisure Centre pool in teams.

It was started in 1977 by the Lions Club of Guernsey, the Guernsey Round Table and the Variety Club of Guernsey, all of which benefited from the fundraising that has to be spent in the Bailiwick.
