Army helps Guernsey explosion death probe

Police probing the death of a man in an explosion at a mansion in Guernsey have called in the British Army to help identify a substance found there.

The man, who has not been named, died in a blast in Avenue Morley, Fort George, late on Friday night.

Experts from 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment, which is responsible for counter-terrorist bomb disposal, will help the inquiry.

However, police said there was no evidence of terrorist activity.

Surrounding streets have been cordoned off since the explosion.

Det Ch Insp Ruari Hardy, of Guernsey Police, said: "Police would wish to reassure the Guernsey public that there are no identified risks or safety issues beyond this immediate address."
