Guernsey language campaign to be launched

A campaign is to be launched to increase the number of Guernsey French speakers in the island.

It follows meetings between Guernsey's culture and leisure minister and key figures from the community.

Only a few hundred people speak the island's native tongue and its use is declining. The campaign will aim to raise awareness of the language.

Deputy Mike O'Hara said: "It's a fresh, new approach, which is something I think it needs."

He said: "Myself and [Deputy] Darren Duquemin will be leading the charge, we're going to be looking at things like websites and so forth and really pushing that kind of thing."
