Guernsey Police trial use of social media

Guernsey Police have launched facebook and twitter accounts to keep the public informed during the visit of the Olympic Torch.

A spokesman for the force said it would trial the use of social media during the relay on 15 July.

The Olympic Torch is due to be in the island for about an hour and organisers expect large crowds to turn out.

The spokesman said if it proved a useful tool it would be used more generally to pass on information.
