Guernsey's Oatlands venue wins approval for Spiegeltent

Guernsey's Oatlands visitor centre has won retrospective planning approval for its Spiegeltent.

The island's Environment Department decided, by four votes to one, to allow the wood and canvas structure to remain at the St Sampson site until October.

The mirrored cabaret tent, which has been operating since May, attracted criticism when it was installed at the site without prior planning permission.

Deputy Barry Paint, who voted against, said nearby residents had been ignored.

"I don't think enough consideration was given to the neighbours," he said.

Deputy Paint said the board had considered 13 letters of objection as part of its deliberations.

The application was for a tourist season venue and the terms of the approval included an instruction to remove all sign of the structure within a few days of 30 September.

Oatlands Holdings Limited were unavailable for comment.
